CREATE is a partnership amongst the US DOT, the State of Illinois, City of Chicago, Metra, Amtrak and the nation's freight railroads. The project is designed to bring improvements and increased efficiency to the region's rail infrastructure and to enhance the quality of life for Chicago-area residents.

A T-WALL retaining wall was required along an existing CSX right-of-way to provide space for a new turnout and siding track. The wall is bordered on one side by an active railroad track and on the other by a deep drainage ditch. Due to water conditions, the wall was installed in three steps. First sheet piling was installed to protect the live track. T-WALL units were then installed using a sheet steel box shoring system. Lastly, the sheet piling was removed.

There was no disruption of railroad traffic during construction.
